Ella es Nila Murillo-Argudo. A inicios de 2016 se encontraba en una situación de salud sumamente grave. Fué internada de emergencia en el Mount Sinai Hospital. Diagnóstico: Cirrosis hepática de origen desconocido. No habían posibilidades de recuperar su salud a base de tratamientos. Unica salida: trasplante de hígado! 

Este es uno de los procedimientos más complicados en la medicina moderna, pues se trata de una cirugía de alto riesgo, que bien puede finalizar en la muerte del paciente. Otra, y quizás la más difícil, encontrar la donación de un hígado sano que cumpla con todos los requisitos para un trasplante, entre otras cosas que sea compatible con quien va a recibirlo. Por último, esperar que no se produzca un rechazo del organismo del receptor ante un órgano "invasor".

Misión casi imposible. Miles de personas han fallecido esperando encontrar donantes de hígado. Muchas de estas personas millonarias a quienes no les llegó la oportunidad de una nueva vida.

Nilita permaneció hospitalizada por más de cinco meses, con un breve intervalo en que fué devuelta a casa. Tuvo excelentes atenciones del personal médico, auxiliares, miembros de los equipos del área, trabajo social y demás del Mount Sinai.

Su enfermo hígado producía amonio en cantidades enormes que complicaban mucho más la situación. Recibía diálisis dos y tres veces por semana debido a que sus riñones estaban siendo dañados seriamente, y se llenaba de un líquido muy perjudicial en su interior, lo que originaba una terrible hinchazón que amenazaba con cobrarle su vida.

Cuando todo parecía perdido, y una noche en que le habían dado el alta para que vaya a esperar en casa algun donante (y posiblemente la muerte), un equipo de profesionales del área de trasplantes llegó al lugar en que le estaban practicando una diálisis. Ordenaron la desconecten y se la llevaron urgentemente a quirófano. Había aparecido un donante! Le informaron que se trataba de un hombre, sano, de apenas veinte años de edad. Ella dijo: "No se hable más. Que me trasplanten".

La peligrosa operación se inició en la media noche entre el Viernes 13 y el Sábado 14 de Mayo de 2016.

En la mañana ya estaba en el área de recuperación. Su nuevo, joven y vigoroso hígado empezó a trabajar al máximo. Tanto, que aunque se había vaticinado que tendría que tener un trasplante de riñón porque los suyos estaban inutilizados, a los pocos días se habían recuperado y trabajaban normalmente. Ese nuevo hígado se adaptó maravillosamente bien a su organismo y le salvó la vida.

El donante, nuestro bien amado Príncipe de otro mundo, Owen. Su decisión de ser donante de órganos, aceptada por su madre Jane, salvó la vida de Nilita. Dicho en otras palabras, le proporcionó una nueva vida. Gracias, Owen. Estás y estarás en nuestros corazones por el resto de nuestras vidas.

THE NEW LIFE

She is Nila Murillo-Argudo. At the beginning of 2016, she was in an extremely serious health situation. She was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital for an emergency. Diagnosis: Liver cirrhosis of unknown origin. There was no chance of recovering her health through treatment. Only way out: liver transplant!

This is one of the most complicated procedures in modern medicine, as it is a high-risk surgery, which may well end in the death  of the patient. Another, and perhaps the most difficult, to fine the donation of a healthy liver that meets all the requirements for a transplant, among other things that is compatible with who is going to receive it. Finally, hope that there is no rejection of the recipient's body by an "invader" organ.

Mission almost impossible. Thousands of people have died waiting to fine liver donors. Many of these millionaire people who did not  get the opportunity for a new life.

Nilita was hospitalized for more than five months, with a brief interval in which she was returned home. She received excellent attentions from Mount Sinai medical staff, assistants, area team members, social workers and others.

Her diseased liver produced ammonia in enormous quantities that made the situation much more complicated. She was on dialysis two and three times a week, because her kidneys were being seriously damaged, and she was filling with a very damaging fluid inside her, causing a terrible swelling that threatened to kill her.

When everything seemed lost, and one night  when she had been discharged to wait at home for a donor (and possibly death), a team of professionals from the transplant area arrived at the place  where she was undergoing dialysis. They ordered disconnected her, and took her urgently to the operation room. "A donor had appeared", they informed Nila. "That it was a healthy man, barely twenty years old". She say: "It's okay, no more talk. Transplant me, please"!

The dangerous operation began at midnight between Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th of May 2016.

In the morning she was already in the recovery area. Her new, young and vigorous liver began to work at its best. So much, so that although she had predicted that she would have to have a kidney transplant because hers were disabled. Within days they had recovered and were working normally. That new liver adapted wonderfully well to her body and saved her life.

The donor, our loved Prince from another World, Owen. His decision to be an organ donor, accepted by his mother Jane, saved Nilita's life. In  other words, he gave her a new life. Thanks, Owen. You are and will be in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

LA DESPEDIDA

Hace cinco años se marchó a sus dominios estelares, para hacerse cargo del gobierno de su Galaxia. Fué una dolorosa despedida, pues todos aquellos que lo conocieron, lo trataron, lo amaron, recibieron alguna clase de ayuda suya, no podían ni podrán olvidarlo jamás.

Owen, el Angel que vivió en la Tierra por veinte años y algo más, cumplió una hermosa misión, como muy pocos pueden hacerlo. Ayudó a muchas personas a cumplir sus sueños, rescató a muchos jóvenes algo descarriados induciéndolos a practicar deportes, artes y otras actividades positivas. Fué un extraordinario amigo, confidente, consejero. Y para la familia que tuvo el privilegio de acogerlo en su seno, los Muller, especialmente su madre, Jane, fué el ser más extraordinario que jamás hayan conocido en este mundo.

Su partida aquél Viernes 13 de Mayo de 2016 fué infinitamente dolorosa para todos sus familiares y amigos. Pero él, Owen, el Príncipe de otro mundo, dejó los mejores recuerdos para todos y la satisfacción de haber sido suyo. Y además, dejaría un legado imperecedero para algunas personas: la vida, una nueva vida.

THE FAREWELL

 

Five years ago he left for his stellar realms, to take charge of the Government of his Galaxy. It was a painful farewell, because all those who knew him, dealt with him, loved him, received some kind of help from him, could not and will never forget him.

Owen, the Angel who lived on Earth  for twenty years and more, fulfilled a beautiful mission, as very few can. He helped many people to fulfill their dreams, rescued many young people somewhat  astray by inducing them to practice sports, arts and other positive activities. He was an extraordinary friend, confidant, counselor. And for the family that had the privilege of welcoming him into their womb, the Mullers, especially his mother, Jane, was the most extraordinary being they have ever know in this world.

His departure that Friday, May 13, 2016 was infinitely painful for all his family and friends. But he, Owen, the Prince of another world, left the best memories for all and the satisfaction of having been his. And besides, it would leave an everlasting legacy for some people: life; a new life.
