English version for Jane K. Muller and her fabulous family.
Owen.
We had let a prudential time pass, advised by the Mount Sinai staff, to try to communicate with the family of the donor. We knew he was male, 20 years old, no contagious disease, and he died of heart problems. So we decided to send the first letter addressed to the family, letting them know our desire to meet and express our condolences for such an unfortunate loss, and our gratitude for the decision to donate and save lives, in this case of Nilita.
At the end of September came the long-awaited response, written with much feeling by the mother of he donor, even without names or address, but with a wonderful description of her son, an incredible boy, loved by all, full of virtue and generosity. In it she said that she would love to meet Nila and her family, that her son's friends and family would also be happy to do so. Nilita answered such a beautiful letter with another very beautiful and full of feelings and love. She headed it with the same words used by the mother: "Mother of the most generous of heart young man".
In March of 2017, letters with the names and other details of each family were already crossed. Even Jean, the mother, sent us some pictures of Owen Muller, her wonderful son, and the first meeting was arranged to meet us.
A beautiful friendship was born between the two families, based on love, generosity, the immense pain of having lost at such an early age a boy who could have been a great among the great ones of this Country, for his capacity, for his talent, for its dedication in favor of others. And in having allowed an equally wonderful and good woman to have had a new chance at life. It is a relationship of gratitude and hope in the midst of the pain and the great sadness of a mother who feels she has lost everything in that exemplary child.
I think this is a "bittersweet" ending, if you can call it somehow. For us it is great happiness because it mean the salvation of Nilita, her ability to continue living many more years, to continue serving others as she has been and is way of life. The joy of having met an amazing family for their love, for their openness towards us. And the sadness of endlessly suffering a mother for the disappearance of her son who was everything: her friend, her confidant, her unconditional support, the giver of love and tenderness in abundance, and who knew how to brighten her ours with jokes, imitations, dances and songs, making her laugh very willingly. For Jean, Joli -Owen's little sister-, Dorothy -his grandmother-, and all the family and his closest friends it's very sad to have lost Owen. But Jean says "We all miss him so so much, but it is comforting to know that some goal came from this tragedy".
I think I have summarized in these six parts the most salient of "Our Story" of 28 years of love, joys and sorrows. And as I have said many times, it will be beyond death.
IVAN
